Pennsylvania officials Provide Thanksgiving holiday travel advice

Pennsylvania and PennDOT State Police highlighted tools available to drivers to create traveling as safe and efficient and outlined steps they are taking.

Thanksgiving travelers are invited to go to the “Historic Holiday Traffic” page at www.511PA.com which allows users to observe how traffic rates on the Wednesday before and Sunday following Thanksgiving at 2015 and 2016 compare to traffic conditions during a normal, non-holiday week. Users can select their region and view an hour-by-hour, color-coded visual of traffic levels to help them decide the best times to travel through the holidayseason. 511PA also provides real time, traffic rate information for approximately 2,900 highway kilometers across PA..

“We continue to look for ways to set our resources to use for the public, and to take action where we could,” PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards stated. “I encourage the public to check 511PA prior to any trip to assist with their travel preparation, particularly during the holiday season.”

Traffic management personnel identified timeframes and locations where congestion will take action to try and alleviate congestion and improve safety and typically increases dramatically during the holiday and have examined this holiday information.
