Politicians say vacation companies ‘exploit hardworking parents’ by overcharging external term time

Holiday companies are now facing a backlash for kids during school vacations following a Supreme Court ruling reaffirming that parents cannot legally accept their children on holiday on flights and accommodation.

The judgment has contributed to “parents, politicians and heads” calling on the government to regulate vacation businesses by capping how much they can control, as stated by the Daily Mail.

The newspaper states that the cost of a vacation will rise in the end of semester by more than # 1,000.

This week watched dad Jon Platt lose his legal challenge from a #120 punishment for taking his daughter into Florida during period without her school’s consent.

Platt had won past battles from the fine for the unauthorised week-long excursion in April 2015, but the Supreme Court ruled upholding the penalty.

In the wake of the situation, Labour’s shadow education secretary Angela Rayner said: “It’s time the government made clear that it is improper to exploit hardworking families.”

Lib Dem education spokesman John Pugh insisted that “covetous” companies must “stop exploiting hardworking parents”, adding that “traveling companies are holding law-abiding parents to ransom.”

In addition, he said: “They ought to be made to limit the expense of excursions in school vacations so they’re not so entirely out of step with vacations a week before or a week after. Traveling businesses shouldn’t be permitted to profiteer off the trunk of hardworking parents.”
